For me the announcement is typical how data centre &#039;component&#039; suppliers vie for position in a downturn. The IT budget has gone down - so if Symantec can reduce storage systems and communications spending through de-dupe, IT managers spending will go down despite the extra software costs. At least that&#039;s the idea.
Oracle, VMWare, Microsoft have all succeeded at various times in the past. I believe Symantec will have a good go this time.
